And We Look On

Isabel Olson (SMTD)

AND WE LOOK ON is a devised performance piece which incorporates projection and lighting design alongside dance, theatre, visual art, and puppetry to create a stunning visual landscape. The production tackles the climate crisis in the Anthropocene ultimately revealing the world we will soon be living in—a barren wasteland unable to provide for life on earth. The show begins with a shadow puppetry piece painting the natural world, but when the curtain drops, it is revealed the world is made of only recycled trash and waste. The production will take place February in the Duderstadt and involve students across a variety of schools – SMTD, STAMPS, and LSA. Our goal is to provoke an emotional response to the climate crisis that can often feeldistant, and then, we will work in collaboration with environmental student groups on campus to connect the pathos of the performance to tangible change for the audience members.
