Pillow Puffer Jacket
Virginia Holland, Stamps School of Art & Design
My project is 3-D and textile-based artwork. By using pillows as the main material for a wearable piece of art, I introduce my peers to the concept of incorporating everyday objects into art. My project also collaborates sculpture with fashion design. Which may be an unfamiliar art form to those who focus on more traditional practices such as painting and drawing.
My piece also includes community building and a chance for my peers to get involved. I want to know the stories of first-generation college students, as well as first-generation Americans. Hearing from people with diverse backgrounds will elevate this project to another level. I want people to look at the puffer jacket and learn about a new community, but at the same time be able to find something that reminds them of their own experience.
My project will be worked on in my time as well as in my Second-Year studio. My project will be finished before the end of the semester.
