Wasted Water
Gillian Yerington (Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design)
“Wasted Water” will show mass apparel overconsumption and the devastating impacts resulting from water scarcity on global communities and the natural environment. It will connect Ann Arbor residents with their textile waste footprint and the global consequences of overconsumption. Adopting the traditional technique of hand weaving, our team uses fast fashion garment waste as the material to create slow fashion tapestries. 10 woven strips will hang on the wall, weighing a total of 81 pounds (the average amount of textile waste Americans throw away each year) and reaching a total size of 10’x11’.
